A graft case worth Rs 302.9 million has been filed against Mayor of Bagmati Municipality in Sarlahi, Bharat Thapa.
The graft case was filed against Mayor Thapa for allegedly misusing funds during the sale of stones, sand, and aggregates excavated while constructing the Bagmati Fish Pond, according to the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).
The anti-graft body has concluded that Thapa has illegally excavated stones, aggregates and sand in the course of constructing Bagmati Fish Pond in collusion with the various interest groups.
According to the CIAA, while a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the multipurpose fish pond was prepared by the Office of Municipal Executive, the project's master plan remains unapproved.
Thapa misappropriated Rs 268 million which increased to Rs 302.9 million Including13 percent value added tax (VAT).
Earlier, a graft-case worth Rs 53.3 million had been filed against Thapa. It is still sub-judice in special court.
Deputy Mayor Lila Kumari Moktan, Chief Administrative Officer Bimal Kumar Pokharel, Project Division Chief Engineer Sagar Paudel, section officer Bishwa Raj Pokharel among others have been made defendants in the latest graft case.
