Lt General Upendra Dwivedi.

Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi is going to be the next Chief of Army Staff of India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government on Tuesday announced that Dwivedi will be the next CoAS of India. He will take charge of office after the incumbent CoAS General Manoj C Pandey retires. Pandey’s term of office will expire on June 30.

Dwivedi is currently serving as the vice Chief of Army Staff.

The Indian government last month had extended the term of Pandey by one more month.

He was due to retire on May 31.

Dwivedi had joined the Indian Army as a commissioned officer on December 15, 1984.  During his 40-year-long military career, he has served in a variety of command, instructional and foreign appointments.
