Host America has faced an 18-run defeat at the hands of host South Africa in the first match of the Super Eight of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
America was bowled out for 176 runs in the allotted 20 overs while it was chasing the 195-run target on Wednesday night.
To restrict America to such a low run, Kagiso Rabada took the highest three wickets giving away 18 runs while Keshav Maharaj and Anrich Nortje and grabbed one wicket each.
Despite the highest 80 runs scored by Andries Gous, America could not meet the target. Gous remained unbeaten with 80 runs including five four and five sixes of 47 deliveries.
Similarly, he hit 38 runs followed by Steven Taylor with 24 runs while the other batsmen could not achieve significant runs.
Earlier, invited to bat first after losing the toss at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, in West Indies, South Africa notched up mammoth 194 runs losing four wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
South Africa managed to set a huge target for America after Quinton de Kock in partnership with captain Aiden Markram scored 110 runs for the second wicket.
Opener de Kock made the highest 74 runs including seven fours and five sixes off 40 balls followed by Markram with 46 runs. He hit four fours and one six off 32 balls.
Heinrich Klaasen scored 36 runs while Tristan Stubbs contributed 20 runs and remained not-out. Two matches are taking place under the Super Eight today.
