India has inflicted a 47-run defeat on Afghanistan in the Super Eight of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
India bowled out Afghanistan for 134 runs while the latter was chasing the 182-run target in the allotted 20 overs at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados on Thursday night.
Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets each followed by Kuldeep Yadav with two runs to stop Afghanistan from reaching the target. Similarly, Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja claimed one wicket each for India.
Azmatullah Omarzai's 26-run score was the highest for Afghanistan. He hit two fours and one six off 20 balls. While Najibullah Zadran made 19 runs, Gulbadin Naib was caught out for 17 runs. The other batsmen could not achieve significant runs.
Before this, electing to bat first after winning the toss, India notched up 181 runs losing eight wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
India's Surya Kumar Yadav hit a half-century including five fours and three sixes off 28 balls followed by Hardik Pandya with 32 runs while Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant hit 24 and 20 runs. The other batsmen could not achieve significant runs, respectively.
On the bowling side, Afghanistan's Fazalhaq Farooqi and Rashid Khan took three wickets each while Naveen-ul-Haq grabbed one wicket.
With this win, India is atop the points table followed by Afghanistan in A group of the Super Eight. Australia and Bangladesh which belong to the same group are locking their horns today (Friday).
