While South Africa registered a second consecutive win, England faced a first defeat in the Super Eight of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
South Africa clinched the seven-run win over England in the Group 'B' held on Friday night.
England was out for 156 runs in the allotted 20 overs losing six wickets while it was chasing the 164-run target.
Despite Harry Brook's significant 53-run score including seven fours off 37 balls, England could not meet the target.
Liam Livingstone scored 33 runs while captain Jos Buttler contributed 17 runs. The other batsmen could not score significant runs.
To prevent England from reaching the target, Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj took two wickets each while Ottneil Baartman and Anrich Nortje grabbed one wicket each for South Africa.
Earlier, invited to bat first after losing the toss, South Africa notched up 163 runs losing six wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Quinton de Kock topped the score with 65 runs including four fours and four sixes off 38 balls. Similarly, David Miller scored 43 runs while Reeza Hendricks and Tristan Stubbs contributed 19 and 12 runs, respectively.
In reply, Jofra Archer took the highest three wickets while Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid took one wicket each for England.
With the win, South Africa is atop the points table in Group 'B' with four points from two wins followed by England with one point from equal two matches.
