The letter of exoneration given to Chief Justice (CJ) Cholendra Shumsher Rana by the Parliament Secretariat has been made public.

The Parliament Secretariat handed over the letter to CJ Rana  sating the impeachment filed against CJ Rana by the then ruling alliance on February 13, 2022 has been ‘null and void’.

The Parliament Secretariat in the letter has argued that the impeachment filed against Rana has been no longer valid with the expiry of the term of the parliament.

On Tuesday, Rana filed a petition at the Parliament Secretariat stating that the impeachment lodged against him carries no legal value since the term of the parliament expired following the parliamentary elections held on November 20.

CJ Raja had been barred for carrying out his duties after the then ruling alliance filed an impeachment against him on February 13 in accordance with Article 101 (2) of the Constitution.

The Parliament Secretariat has stated that this letter of exoneration has been handed over to Rana after the term of the previous parliament expired before taking the impeachment forward.
