Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki said the impeachment against Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana is still active.

During a press meet organized to share the cabinet decisions on Wednesday, Minister Karki said the impeachment filed against Rana has not been invalid.

“The impeachment against Rana is still valid and its report will be submitted in the coming meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) for discussions,” said Karki, adding, “This impeachment is the property of the sovereign parliament.”

He further said that the upcoming parliament will dwell on this issue and take an appropriate decision on this matter.

On February 13, the ruling alliance -- Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center) and CPN (Unified Socialist) had registered an impeachment against Rana at the Parliament Secretariat.

Dispatching a letter today, Dr. Bharat Raj Gautam, General Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat, said that this impeachment is no longer valid.

"The impeachment lost its validity following the expiry of the five-year-term of the federal parliament on September 18," said Gautam.
