Locals and traders have staged a demonstration against the footpath extension drive in New Road since early morning today.
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) started its footpath extension drive from Wednesday after High Court, Patan issued a verdict paving the way for the metropolis to widen the footpath in New Road.
Irate locals and traders have been demanding that footpath should not be widened.
A large number of security personnel including city police and Nepal Police have been deployed in New Road to preempt any untoward incidents.
Earlier, the Road Division Office, Kathmandu had halted the footpath extension drive stating that KMC was carrying out the work without its permission.
The KMC moved the court after the Road Division Office, Kathmandu blacktopped the road cut open by the metropolis for widening the footpath.
