Eighteen staff members including the crew have died after an aircraft of Saurya Airlines crashed at Tribhuvan International Airport on Wednesday morning, said TIA security chief DIG Ram Dutta Joshi.
The Pokhara-bound Bombardier CRJ-200 aircraft with the call sign 9N-AME crashed on the east side of the runway at 11:11 am shortly after it took off.
According to Saurya Airlines, 19 staffers including two crew members were onboard the aircraft which was flying to Pokhara for a regular technical test from Kathmandu. Captain Manish Ratna Shakya who sustained critical injuries is undergoing treatment at KMC Hospital.
Captain Shakya has sustained injuries to his eye and can speak, SSP Dinesh Raj Mainali, the spokesperson of Kathmandu Valley Police Office, said.
