The rivers in the Kathmandu Valley have swelled due to incessant rains continuing since Monday night.

In view of the level of waters increasing in the rivers and rivulets in the federal capital, the Flood Forecasting Division has alerted the people, especially those living along the coastal areas of the rivers and avoid riverside roads till 4 pm.

Issuing a warning on Tuesday morning, the Division has said, “People have been urged not to use riverside roads along the banks of the rivers including Bishnumati, Dhobikhola, Manohara, Hanumante, Godawari, Khodku, Nakhkhu  till 4 pm as the water level is increasing in these rivers due to incessant rains.”

The Kathmandu Valley has witnessed rains since last night leaving commuters and people in general affected. There was a huge traffic jam around 10 am in the Valley. According to the traffic police, the massive traffic jam occurred after the commuters avoided riverside roads due to possible dangers of floods.

According to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, the rain will occur in the Valley throughout the day today.
