A moon crater has been named after late Pasang Lhamu Sherpa, the first Nepali woman to scale Mount Everest.
The International Astronomical Union (IAU) Working Group for Planetary System Nomenclature approved the name Lhamu for a crater on the Moon, the US Geological Survey (USGS) has said.
Commenting on the decision of the IAU, the Australian Embassy in Nepal wrote, "A fitting tribute to a courageous Nepali woman."
Lhamu had climbed Mt Everest, the highest peak of the world, on April 22, 1993.
Pasang Lhamu, a mountaineer from Nepal, inspired women, not only in Nepal but around the world, showing that great feats can be achieved in the face of barriers and everyday challenges.
Her spirit lives on through the work of Pasang Lhamu Foundation led by her daughter Dawa Futi Sherpa.
