Scooter rider killed in Ghaththagar road accident identified as male of 'early 40s'

The scooter rider who was killed in a Gaththaghar road accident has been identified as a male of early 40s.

Issuing a press note, the District Police Range Office, Bhaktapur said the man died on the spot when his scooter, Ba 39 Pa 8944, was hit by the truck, Na 6 Kha 2173, heading to Sallaghari from Kaushaltar, during the traffic checking.  

The truck driver Satendra Shrestha, 32, of Malangawa Municipality-2, Sarlahi, was taken under control and the truck has been kept in the Kathmndu Valley Armed Police Force Battalion 2, Maharajgunj. The incident occurred at 13.40 pm and the body was taken to TU Teaching Hospital for postmortem. The scooter has been kept at Police Circle, Thimi. 

According to an eyewitness, the body of the victim was badly mutilated and the blood was spilling over the road. The scooter was dragged along the road for about 100 meters.

Irate locals hit the streets against the traffic police saying that the scooter driver lost his life due to the traffic police. The irate protestors tried to set a fire to the truck before being intervened in by the police. Gaththaghar remained tense throughout the day following the incident resulting in the disruption of the Bhaktapur-Koteshwar road section and Sanothimi-Jadibuti-Pepsikola road section for around three hours.

A large number of security personnel including Nepal Police and Armed Police Force were deployed to take the situation under control.
