Four die, six escape unhurt as landslide buries house in Bajhang

Locals remove rubble to recover bodies from a landslide-destroyed house at Bungal Municipality-10 in Bhajang district on Monday.

Four members of a family died and six others escaped unhurt after a house where they were sleeping was buried by a landslide in Bajhang district on Sunday night.

The deceased are 55-year-old Kale Dhami, Golke Dhami, 25, granddaughters Akriti, 6, and Laxmi Dhami, 3, according to the Sudurpashchim Province Police Office.

They died after the house of Bir Bahadur Dhami was buried by the landside induced by monsoon rains at Bungal Municipality-10, in the wee hours of Monday.

Six people who were sleeping in the house managed to escape before the house was damaged by the landslide, said the police. They have sustained minor injuries.

Those who escaped unhurt are house owner Bir Bahadur Dhami, 16-year-old daughter Kamala Dhami, son Ujjwal Dhami, 30, 10-year-old grandson Roshan Dhami and daughter-in-law Shanti Dhami, 30. Similarly, Ambadutta Joshi, 71, of Bungal Municipality-9, who had come to the house last night as a guest. They have sustained minor injuries and are being taken to a hospital for treatment.

The incident occurred at 1 am and the police were informed about it at 3 am. A team of police with the help of locals retrieved the bodies from ravaged house at 4 am, said the police.
