An artificial dam has been formed after a dry landslide blocked the Indrawati River at Panchpokhari Thangpal-7, Tipeni in Sindhupalchowk district on Monday afternoon.
The dry landslide that occurred in the upper part of Tipeni-based Regional Hospital blocked the river, the Nepali Army has said.
If the dam breaks, it will cause the risk of flooding downstream affecting the people living on the river banks, the local administration has said.
Issuing a press note, the District Administration Office (DAO) has urged the people to take precautions living in wards 7 and 8 of Panchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality and wards 7, 9, 11, 12, and 13 of Melamchi Municipality and wards 10, 11 and 12 of Indrawati Rural Municipality.
A rescue team from Indradhwaj Battalion of the Nepali Army has been deployed to relocate the locals and their belongings to a safer area, the Directorate of Public Relations and Information said.
