Dengue cases exceed 6,000, with over 600 cases in Kathmandu Valley

The cases of dengue infection have crossed more than 6,000 across the country, according to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division under the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP).

The mosquito-borne infection is detected in all districts except for Humla and Mustang, said Dr Gokarna Prasad Dahal, Chief of Vector Control Disease at the Division.

Dr Dahal said altogether 6,347 dengue cases have been confirmed in the country at present while three people have died due to dengue infection so far.

Among the seven provinces, Gandaki Province has recorded the highest number of dengue cases at 2,954 while Karnali Province the lowest at 93, according to the Division.

Similarly, there are 791 cases in Koshi Province, 100 in Madhesh Province, 1,612 in Bagmati Province, 444 in Lumbini Province, and 432 in Sudurpaschim Province, it was shared.

Kathmandu Valley has recorded 680 dengue infections with 511 in Kathmandu district, 69 in Bhaktapur, and 100 in Lalitpur.

The MoHP has urged for the implementation of 'Larva Search and Destroy' campaign to prevent the outbreak and spread of dengue. Also, the government will bear the treatment costs of the dengue patients in public healthcare facilities, according to the Ministry.

Likewise, the Division reported 75 cases of cholera across the country as of now. Chief Dr Dahal informed that 50 cholera cases were detected in Lalitpur district followed by 10 in Kathmandu, and 8 in Kailali.

Likewise, two cases of this highly contagious diarrheal infection were detected in Pyuthan, one in Makawanpur, and four in Rolpa, he said.
