Bishnumati exceeds alert level; sporadic rain likely at night

The Bishnumati River of Kathmandu has exceeded the level of danger this evening.

The Flood Forecasting Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued a notice calling upon the general public to stay alert along the lower banks as the Bishnumati River has crossed the danger mark at Gongabu Water Measurement Centre.

"As the current water level at the Centre of the Bishnumati River in Kathmandu district has crossed the danger level and is increasing, therefore, those travelling and residing along the banks of the Bishnumati River should remain in high alert," the notice reads.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, rainfall is still taking place in some areas including in the Valley. Department's meteorologist Pratibha Manandhar said that the effects of monsoon winds are currently prevailing across the country and the low pressure line of the monsoon is at around the average location in the west and in the south of the average location in the east.

It is generally cloudy throughout the country at present and light to moderate rainfall is taking place at some places of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, she said.

The upper areas of Gongabu and Budhanilkantha of Kathmandu Valley received rainfall today. According to the Nepal Flood Information Portal, the Bagmati River had reached around the alert level at Gaurighat Water Measurement Center this morning.

A public notice was issued this evening as the Kamala River in Sindhuli has also reached around the alert level.

The Meteorological Forecasting Division has predicted heavy rainfall at one or two places of Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces tonight.

Likewise, heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places of Koshi, Madhes, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces tomorrow, Manandhar said. (RSS)
