Today is the main day of the Chhat festival, which falls on Kartik Shukla Sasthi. The government has also announced a public holiday today.
Devotees will observe fast and offer Argha to the setting sun from a beautifully decorated 'ghat' built near a pond or a source of water this evening, said Anil Singh, a member of Gaurighat Chhath Worship Committee.
This ritual is called 'Sajhuka Arakh' or 'Sajhiyaghat' in the Maithili language.

There is a religious belief that no one will suffer from skin disease if argha is offered by worshipping the Sun ritually.
Different areas--Gaurighat, Kamalpokhari as well as Bagmati, Nakkhu, and Bishnumati river banks -- have been decorated for Chhath festival.
The four-day Chhat festival which began on Tuesday will conclude after devotees offer argha to the rising sun on Friday morning.
