Joint Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai has taken charge as the Acting Foreign Secretary of the Nepal government, the Foreign Ministry said.
Rai, the senior-most joint secretary at the Foreign Ministry, has already served as the Nepali Ambassador to the UN and South Africa.
Mentioning on X, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said," With a distinguished career spanning diplomacy and governance, Mr. Rai has served as Ambassador to the UN, South Africa, and held pivotal roles in Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs."
A meeting of the Council of Ministers on Thursday evening (November 22) appointed Joint Secretary Rai as the acting Secretary of the Foreign Ministry.
The post of Secretary at the Ministry lay vacant after Secretary Sewa Lamsal was transferred to the Office of the Prime Minister last Thursday.
The government has already recommended Lamsal as the Nepali Ambassador to Belgium.
