Police have arrested a youth in connection with the murder of 17-year-old Sarita Tamang, a resident of Gajuri Rural Municipality-4, Dhading, and currently staying in a rented room in Chandragiri Municipality-10, Satungal, in Kathmandu.
According to the District Police Range, Kathmandu, Sarita, who went missing since the night of December 14, was found dead in her own room in Satungal on December 18 during a search. Sarita, a 10th grader at Bishnu Devi Shiksha Sadan in Naikap, was staying in a rented room on the ground floor of Birendra Shrestha's house in Satungal.
Acting on a complaint lodged by Nabin Rumba Tamang, the brother of Sarita, at the Police Circle, Thankot, on December 16, the police had started searching for the missing girl.
Meanwhile, 24-year-old Biswas Tamang was arrested on December 18 from Khadkagaun in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-14 on the suspicion of his involvement in Sarita's murder, SP Nawaraj Adhikari, spokesperson of the Range, informed. Biswas is from Gajuri Rural Municipality, Dhading.
According to SP Adhikari, a Realme mobile phone set that Sarita was carrying was recovered from Biswas.
“We are investigating the reasons for the murder,” said SP Adhikari.
