Nepali Communist Party (NCP) leader Mangal Bahadur Shahi has been appointed as the Chief Minister of Karnali Province.
Province Chief Yagya Raj Joshi appointed Shahi as the Chief Minister this afternoon.
Earlier today, Shahi formally laid claim to the post of Chief Minister with the backing of CPN-UML.
The agreement between CPN-UML and NCP states that NCP will lead the Karnali Province government. In line wiht the same agreement, the NCP parliamentary party leader laid his claim for the Chief Minister's post.
In the 40-member Karnali provincial assembly, NC has 13 MPs followed by UML with 10 MPs. 21 MPs are enough to form a government.
Similarly, Nepali Congress has 15 MPs, one from Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and one independent MP in the provincial assembly.
Earlier, UML's Yamalal Kandel had become the Chief Minister with the support of NC. He resigned after NC withdrew its support.
