Foreign Minister Dr Arzu Rana has called on Indian industrialists to invest in energy, infrastructure development, agriculture, tourism and information technology sectors of Nepal.
Addressing the Indo-Nepal Economic Conference jointly organized by the Foundation for Economic Growth and Welfare (EGROW Foundation) and Kathmandu University, which kicked off in New Delhi today, Minister Rana called on the Indian industrialists to invest in Nepal saying that the Nepal government has adopted a friendly foreign investment policy.
Minister Ran, who is in India following her Europe tour, mentioned that an investment friendly environment has been created in Nepal which has been rated as BB-. Speaking on the occasion, Rana stressed the need to bolster ties between Nepal and India not only economically but cultural and social relations should also be strengthened.
"The Nepal-India relations are not limited to merely agreements but are intertwined by shared cultures, religions and histories," she said calling for bolstering these ties by prioritizing these cultural connections.
Emphasizing the cross-border infrastructure development, she said," Projects such as Integrated Check Post (ICP), railway, petroleum pipelines and electricity transmission lines are the important components of the Nepal-India economic cooperation."
In the conference, she further mentioned that Nepal and India have signed the power trade agreement according to which Nepal will sell 10,000 megawatts of electricity in the next 10 years and has sold 40 MWs of electricity to Bangladesh via the land of India.
Stating that there is a huge gap in the bilateral trade, she called on the Indian side to reduce trade deficit and resolve existing trade barriers including border trade structures.
