Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has informed that a mechanism would be formed to amend the Constitution of Nepal within a few days.
"The discourse on the constitution amendment process has started," said he, "The parties – Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) -- will form a mechanism after forging a common understanding on those provisions which deem to be amended. Then, we will try to take the other political parties into confidence on this issue."
Nepali Congress and UML cannot amend the constitution alone without the agreement of Madhesh-based parties.
"NC and UML alone cannot amend the constitution, without the agreement of the Madhesh-based parties. We will launch discourse on it with other political parties, too. We will amend provisions which deem to be amended. We will render efforts toward making the Constitution more inclusive."
Despite garnering popular votes, the party has to form an alliance with a small party to form a government under the present constitutional provision. This is the compulsion the political parties are facing, said Thapa. "Our constitution has to be bailed out of this compulsion. These are some of the provisional issues to be amended. We will exercise maximum cautions while dealing with these provisional issues," said Thapa.
Meanwhile, he claimed that the NC will contest the elections alone in the 2084 elections capitalizing on the incumbent coalition government run by NC and UML.
