Nepal's first female ambassador, Bindeshwari Shah, has passed away. She passed away peacefully at her residence in Kalimati, Kathmandu, on Thursday morning. She was 92.
"Her family members have informed about her passing," former Foreign Secretary Dr. Madan Bhattarai, who considers the late Shah a source of inspiration, told Nepalkhabar.
Shah was appointed as the Nepali ambassador to India in 2044 BS. She was the Nepali ambassador to India when India imposed a blockade on Nepal in 2045 BS.
While serving as the ambassador in New Delhi, she was promoted from the post of Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the post of Additional Secretary.
Following the formation of Bangladesh in 1971, Shah served as Nepal's first acting ambassador to the country.
She retired from the foreign service after the then government introduced a 30-year age limit for civil service.
She is the mother of banker Anil Keshary Shah.
