Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana has urged the Israeli government, through Israeli Ambassador to Nepal Shmulik Arie Bass, to release Nepali student Bipin Joshi, who is under the control of the Hamas group.

During a courtesy call with Foreign Minister Rana at the Foreign Ministry on Wednesday, Minister Rana inquired about the condition of Nepali student Bipin and urged the Israeli government to take the initiative to free him from Hamas control, according to his secretariat.

Minister Rana has urged the Israeli government, through Ambassador Bass, to give special priority to Joshi's release, as the Hamas group is reportedly planning to release 34 people it has kidnapped.

During the meeting, Ambassador Bass informed that the Israeli government had sent a list to Hamas a few months ago for the release of citizens in critical health conditions, including the elderly, women, and children, who were under Hamas control, and that they had received information that preparations were underway to release them in the first phase.

On October 7, 2023, the Palestinian Hamas group had attacked Israeli territory, killing more than a thousand people, including 10 Nepali nationals.

The Nepal government has continued its diplomatic efforts for the release of Bipin. At the United Nations, various international and regional forums, as well as in various bilateral and multilateral meetings, Minister Rana has been urging the international community to take the initiative for Bipin's release.
