General Secretary of Nepali Congress Gagan Thapa has said that he is with Dr Shekhar Koirala through the upcoming 15th General Convention of the party.
Talking to journalists in Pokhara on Wednesday, General Secretary Thapa said that he respects Koirala as his leader and will continue to do so.
"He (Koirala) is our leader today will remain so in the future, too. I contested the general secretary in the 14th General Convention under his leadership," he said.
Even though he is striving to serve as the unifying general secretary for the entire party, he acknowledges his roots in the Koirala group of Nepali Congress.
"It is a natural to have factions in the party. As the general secretary, I always try to serve as a unifying general secretary in the party. I am with Koirala through the 15th General Convention," he said, "I am with Koirala and I think that he is also with me. However, whether to stay in or leave the group is a matter of personal decision."
Thapa had been elected as the general secretary through the 14th General Convention of Nepali Congress representing the Koirala group. Shekhar Koirala had lost to the presidential election to Sher Bahadur Deuba.
The relationship between Gagan and Koirala has soured, of late. Shekhar Koirala has already announced to contest the party presidency in the upcoming general convention and is now on a country tour, currently.
On the other hand, Gagan is also making preparations to become the party President.
