CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has extended his best wishes on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the 'People's War'.
Issuing a statement on Thursday morning, Prachanda expressed his best wishes to Nepali brothers and sisters on the occasion of the 'People's War' anniversary.
The Maoists had launched an armed insurgency in the country on February 13, 2052. "The country is currently practicing democratic republic thanks to the strength of the Maoist People's War that lasted for 10 years in the country and the joint movement of the then seven parties in parliament," the former prime minister said.
Prachanda said that the current generation should reflect on why the People's War was necessary and what achievements it made, and that it is important to understand what our lives would have been if the 'People's War' had not occurred.
"There was feudal exploitation in this country. Feudal lords decided the fate of the people. There was extreme discrimination and oppression against classes and communities including Dalits, women, indigenous nationalities, Madhesis, Muslims, Tharus. Given this context, a radical societal transformation through gradual reforms was impossible. Resistance became necessary, and this necessity ultimately resulted in the form of the People's War."
