Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has been elected as the chairman of Nepal Samajbadi Party (NSP). Bhattarai was elected as the chairman through the party's first national convention held on February 11.

When the counting of votes excluding the migrant vote was completed, Bhattarai has already led his rival Netra Prasad Chapagain, by a margin of 611 votes. Out of 873 votes cast, Chapagain got 71 votes.

Leader Rup Narayan Shrestha said, "It is certain that Baburam Bhattarai will be elected as the chairman. Some overseas votes are yet to be counted. However, the difference is more than the votes remaining to be counted."

He said that the final results will be made public through a press conference at 5 pm.
