Students from 12 community schools in Lalitpur Metropolitan City have showcased their robotics skills at the Yala Mayor's Cup Inter-School Robotics Challenge.
The event, held at Classic Venue in Sanepa, Lalitpur-2, on Saturday (February 15, 2024), was a culmination of a seven-month robotics program supported by the Lalitpur Metropolis, Citynet+ Arts Japan, and KDDI Foundation, Japan, with technical assistance from Open Learning Exchange (OLE) Nepal.
The competition featured two events: a robotics model exhibition and an on-site coding challenge. In the exhibition, students displayed various robotic models they had built, with Shree Shramik Bal Vigyan Basic School, Hindu Vidya Peeth Nepal School, and Bal Binod Basic School winning the top three spots, respectively. In the coding challenge, students programmed robots to complete a given task, with Lalit Kalyan Basic School, Harisiddhi Secondary School, and Hindu Vidya Peeth Nepal School emerging as the winners.

The competition aimed to encourage students to explore technology. "This competition is a testament to the students' hard work and dedication to learning robotics," said Mr K Hanahara, the President of KDDI Foundation, "We are proud to support this initiative, which will help prepare our students for the future."
The event was attended by Lalitpur Metropolitan City officials, representatives from KDDI Foundation Japan and Citynet+Arts Japan, OLE Nepal staff, journalists, and participating students and teachers. The robotics program will continue in the schools in the days ahead, too, the organizers said.
