A group of Nepali students studying at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University in Bhubaneswar, the capital of the Indian state of Odisha, has alleged that they were assaulted by a group including police officers.

The incident occurred after the students staged a protest demanding justice for a Nepali student, Prakriti Lamsal, who was found dead in her hostel room on Sunday evening. Lamsal was a third-year B-Tech student at KIIT.

According to Ritesh Sah, one of the Nepali students, no sooner had they returned to the hostel from the protest, than the hostel was sealed off. A large number of guards, and local goons forcibly entered the rooms of Nepali students dragged them out and brutally beaten, he claimed.

Sah wrote on social media, "This morning, after returning to the hostel from our protest, the hostel was sealed off. Shortly after the college dean and plainclothes police officers visited the hostel, a large number of guards and local goons entered our hostel. They forcibly entered the rooms of Nepali students, dragged us out, and beat us mercilessly."

He also shared a video of the incident on social media, claiming that the Nepali students were taken to separate unknown locations.

According to Indian media outlets, some staffers of the college have been suspended in reponse to the protest staged by the Nepali students.
