Two people died and two others sustained critical injuries in a water tanker accident at Gupteshwar in Galchi Rural Municipality-3, Dhading in the wee hours on Wednesday.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:00 AM today on an inner road leading to the Gupteshwar Temple. The tanker, with the registration number Bagmati Province 01-004 Ka 3352, was transporting water from Adamghat when it reportedly lost control while reversing, and plunged some 600 meters down the hillside.

The deceased have been identified as 18-year-old Prashant Chepang and 20-year-old Jayaram Chepang, residents of Gajuri Rural Municipality-6, Dhading.

Nineteen-year-old Shirish Chepang and 17-year-old Suresh Chepang sustained critical injuries and have been taken to Kathmandu for further medical treatment, according to DSP Subash Hamal, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Dhading.

Following the accident, teams from the Sunaula Bazar Area Police Office, led by Police Inspector Raju Prasad Dhakal, and the Gajuri Area Police Office, led by Assistant Police Inspector Rajkumar Khadka, were deployed to the incident site.

The injured were swiftly rescued and transported to a medical facility. The 23-year-old tanker driver, Dinesh Chepang, has been taken into police custody.

A preliminary investigation by the police suggests that the accident may have occurred because of the narrow road conditions. Further investigation into the incident is currently underway, the police said.
