Ten Nepali nationals who had illegally entered the United States of America (USA) are returning to Kathmandu today via a chartered flight. According to the Department of Immigration, they are scheduled to arrive in Kathmandu on Wednesday morning at around 10 AM.
After Donald Trump was elected President of the United States, the US administration has been deporting immigrants who entered the country illegally. Following an executive order by Trump, 27 Nepalis have already been deported from the US.
Today, an aircraft from the American airline company Griffon Air, a Gulfstream jet, is arriving in Kathmandu carrying ten Nepali nationals. The same flight will also bring some Albanian citizens. The immigration office stated that the aircraft would proceed to Nepal after dropping off the Albanian citizens at Tirana International Airport.
In January, six Nepalis were deported, followed by 20 in February, and one in March. During this period, the US administration reported that three Nepalis were deported to Panama.
During the previous four-year term of President Joe Biden, it is estimated that around 9,000 Nepalis entered the US without visas. Among them, 2,008 are currently in the custody of the US administration.
In the first phase, the US administration is preparing to deport 1,445,549 immigrants who have been residing illegally in the USA.
