Tirkha Bahadur Budhathoki, a former ward chairman from Sunchhahari Rural Municipality-5 in Rolpa, who had joined the Russian Army, has died.

His brother, Khagendra Budhathoki, informed that they began the mourning rituals on Monday after receiving news of his death. Tirkha Bahadur had been out of contact since February 25.

He was out of contact when he was fighting against the Ukrainian Army, and later reestablished communication, according to his family members. Sadly, a fellow Nepali soldier in the Russian army informed the family of his death on the eleventh day after he came into contact.

Tirkha Bahadur, 44, had joined the Russian Army in October 2023. The family received information that he was killed in the line of duty on March 7.

Devi Lal Roka Magar, the incumbent ward chairman of the same ward, confirmed that the mourning rituals began on Monday after receiving official confirmation of Budhathoki's death.

In the 2017 local elections, Tirkh Bahadur was elected ward chairman representing the CPN (UML). After completing his first term, he ran for re-election in 2022 but was defeated by Devi Lal by 94 votes.

Tirkha Bahadur, also a former soldier, had left the army two years after joining the service due to Maoist insurgency and went abroad for employment.

Tirkh Bahadur is survived by his parents, wife, and two children. His wife works as a government health worker.
