The Supreme Court of Nepal has issued an order directing the concerned authorities to ensure the timely publication of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) board results and to avoid postponing the Class 12 board exams.
The directive came in response to a writ petition filed by advocate Shrawan Kumar Chaudhary. A bench led by Justice Nahakul Subedi ruled that the SEE results must be published as scheduled and that the Class 12 exams should proceed without further delay.
Emphasizing the importance of quality education, the apex court stated that today’s children are tomorrow’s leaders, and only by providing them with proper education can the nation produce capable human resources to guide society.
The court also expressed concerns over teachers staging demonstrations abandoning classrooms, stating, "School teachers, who bear the responsibility of guiding society through regular education with ideals and morality, should not leave schools for prolonged protests. Such a situation cannot be deemed desirable."
The Supreme Court further urged the concerned parties to address the legitimate and constitutional demands of protesting teachers promptly. "The concerned bodies must take appropriate and necessary decisions within three days of receiving this order to ensure protesting teachers return to schools and resume regular teaching," the order reads.
Additionally, the court stressed that children across the country must not be deprived of their right to regular schooling. "Immediate arrangements must be made to prevent delays in the SEE results due to teacher protests. Similarly, the Class 12 board exams must be held as scheduled to avoid jeopardizing the future of millions of students," the ruling stated.
The Supreme Court has ordered the Ministry of Education to implement the directives within three days and submit a progress report by the fourth day.
