Tension has flared as protesting teachers clashed with police personnel in Baneshwar, Kathmandu.
According to SP Apil Raj Bohara, spokesperson for the District Police Range, Kathmandu, the clash took place after teachers attempted to break through the security barricade and move forward in New Baneshwar this afternoon.
The police claim they used force after the teachers went violent and unruly. The police resorted to baton charges and fired water cannons to contain the mob.
Twenty-six individuals -- five police officials, one journalist and 20 teachers -- were injured in the clash, according to SP Bohara.

However, the teachers' federation claimed that sixty-two teachers were injured during the confrontation with the security personnel.
Federation's Chairman Laxmi Kishor Subedi said, "We strongly condemn the highhandedness of the police administration for using force in our peaceful demonstration. Sixty-two teachers sustained injured in the clash. We are in hospitals."
According to Subedi, some teachers are receiving treatment at National Trauma Center, Everest Hospital and Civil Hospital.
Teachers have claimed that there was an infiltration during the demonstration. There was a confrontation among the teachers themselves on Saturday.

Meanwhile, one teacher has been taken under control by the police. SP Bohara mentioned that the situation is now under control.
Community school teachers have been staging a Kathmandu-centric demonstration demanding the enactment of the School Education Bill for 25 days.
