With the tension between Nepal and India increasing, Member of Parliament (MP) Mina Tamang has demanded that Nepali Gorkha soldiers not be used as the first line of defense in any potential conflict between the two countries.
Speaking during the zero hour in the meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday, she also urged the Nepali government to draw India's attention to this matter.
Tamang said, "I want to draw the government’s attention, through the Speaker, to take serious diplomatic initiatives and hold discussions with the Indian government to ensure that Nepali Gorkha soldiers are not deployed as the first line of action in any conflict between the two countries."
She also stressed the need to protect and rescue Nepalis working in India amid the rising tensions between the two nations.
"The deadly attack on the India-Pakistan border in Kashmir has caused human casualties and unleashed terror," MP Tamang stated, "Since Nepalis working in Indian cities are targeted by Pakistan, the Nepal government should take diplomatic initiative for their protection and rescue."
