Lawmakers speaking in today's meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) have demanded immediate rescue for Nepali people stranded in foreign employment.
During the 'emergency session' of the meeting, Member of Parliament from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Gyan Bahadur Shahi, demanded that the government immediately rescue the 469 Nepali reportedly held hostage in Jubail, Saudi Arabia.
He drew the attention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security for the rescue of Nepalis who have been held hostage in foreign countries. Shahi urged the government to be cautious about Nepalis going for foreign employment being cheated time and again, and demanded timely rescue for Nepalis who are in trouble in foreign countries.
Nepali Congress MP Rama Koirala Paudel demanded the establishment of a tripartite labor commission to protect the rights and interests of workers and to manage the overall labor sector.
She expressed the view that by arranging for the commission to represent the government, employers, and workers, the problems seen in foreign employment could be resolved. She also drew the government's attention to the hardships faced by locals due to the interruption of electricity supply in Guthichaur, Jumla.
Nepali Congress lawmaker Ramkrishna Yadav demanded immediate relief for the families affected by the fire at Ward-5 of Kamala Municipality in Dhanusha district and called for the rehabilitation of the victims.
Government's attention drawn on various contemporary issues
Similarly, speaking during the 'zero hour' of the meeting of the House of Representatives today, MPs have, through the Speaker, drawn the government's attention to contemporary issues such as the problems of landless squatters, disaster management, agriculture, and road infrastructure.
They suggested to the government that the budget for the upcoming financial year should address the existing problems.
The MPs airing their views in the Zero Hour session were Achyut Prasad Mainali, Anjani Shrestha, Anisha Nepali, Abdul Khan, Amar Bahadur Rayamajhi, Dr Amresh Kumar Singh, Arjun Narsingh KC, Ashma Kumari Chaudhary, Asim Shah and Urmila Majhi.
Similarly, MPs Hrishikesh Pokhrel, Eknath Dhakal, Kaluram Rai, Kiran Kumar Saha, Kusum Devi Thapa, Ganesh Parajuli, Ganga Karki, Chanda Karki (Bhandari), Chandra Bahadur Bishwakarma, Chitra Bahadur KC and Jwala Kumari Saha called the attention of the government on several urgent local and national issues.
