Minister-level delegation to attend Sagarmatha Dialogue from China and India

The Sagarmatha Dialogue, a three-day climate event which is set to be held from May 16 to 18 in Kathmandu, will see a high-level participation from neighboring countries -- China and India.

While the Vice Chairman of the 14th National People's Congress will attend the event from China while the Minister for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change will be participate representing India.

From China, Vice Chairman Xiao Jie of the 14th National People's Congress, and from India, Minister Bhupender Yadav will be attending the Sagarmatha Dialogue. The dialogue will also see the participation of Mukhtar Babayev, the Minister for Environment and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, who chaired COP-29.

During a press conference held on Tuesday, Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba shared that Bangladesh will be represented by the Social Welfare Minister's advisor, Sharmeen Murshid, while Energy and Natural Resources Minister Gem Tshering will attend the program, representing Bhutan.

Foreign Minister Dr. Rana also informed that the Maldives will be represented by Tourism and Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim. From Japan, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs IKUINA Akiko will participate in the Sagarmatha Dialogue. The UAE is also sending its Deputy Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah to attend the event.

From the UK, a minister-level official, Baroness Hayman, will participate in the dialogue. Her role is described as the 'Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.'

Ten other countries and regional organizations will participate in the Sagarmatha Dialogue at the ambassador level. These include Qatar, Kyrgyzstan, Oman, Brazil, Egypt, SAARC, BIMSTEC, the United Nations, among others. Additionally, Martin Raiser, Vice President of the World Bank for South Asia, and Fatima Yasmin, Vice President of the Asian Development Bank, will also attend.

The Sagarmatha Dialogue will take place from May 16 to 18.
