Lawmakers of opposition parties have obstructed the meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) on Tuesday demanding resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, who is allegedly implicated in the visa scandal.
CPN (Maoist Center) lawmaker Barshaman Pun, representing the opposition parties, vehemently stated that the parliament would not be allowed to function until the the Home Minister resigns.
"We humbly request the Home Minister to resign and pave the way forward. We have not claimed that he is directly involved," Pun said, "But after such a serious issue has been raised, the Home Minister himself should resign to create a conducive environment for investigation into the case."
Likewise, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Shishir Khanal also demanded the Home Minister's resignation. "If questions are raised against any minister, and if a state body needs to investigate, such a minister has no right to remain in that position," he said, "Therefore, he must resign."
Meanwhile, when Speaker Devraj Ghimire attempted to give time to ruling Nepali Congress Chief Whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire to speak, opposition parties started chanting slogans in the parliament, calling for the Home Minister's resignation.
