Marking the culmination of its week-long World Environment Day celebrations, Standard Chartered Bank Nepal Limited (SCBNL) organized a large-scale tree plantation drive at Laboratory Secondary School in Kirtipur. Over 350 bank employees participated in the initiative, planting more than 700 saplings comprising fruit-bearing, flowering, and shade-providing trees to promote biodiversity and environmental sustainability.

The event commenced with a ceremonial planting by Gorakh Rana, CEO and Head of Coverage; Sarbendra Mishra, Deputy CEO and Head of Treasury Markets; and the school’s Vice Principal, Pemba Tshering Sherpa. Addressing the participants, Rana emphasized the Bank’s commitment to sustainability, stating, “Our team’s active involvement showcases how sustainability is deeply embedded in our values and activities, reflecting our purpose of being ‘Here for good’.”

In addition to the plantation drive, staff members cleaned and maintained previous years' plantation sites, reinforcing long-term environmental resilience. Leading up to the event, SCBNL conducted awareness campaigns aligned with this year’s global theme, “Beat Plastic Pollution,” including interactive sessions and cultural programs at the school to promote environmental stewardship among students.

As the only international bank operating in Nepal and holding an ICRANP-IR AAA rating for financial stability, SCBNL reaffirms its dedication to sustainable development. The initiative underscores the Bank’s focus on fostering ecological responsibility and investing in future generations.
