Nepal defeated Sri Lanka by eight goals in the AFC Women's Asian Cup Qualifiers held at Tashkent Stadium in Uzbekistan on Wednesday.
This is Nepal's second consecutive win in the ongoing Asian Cup Qualifiers. Earlier, Nepal had defeated Laos by 9 goals in the first match of the group stage.
In Nepal's victory, Captain Sabitra Bhandari Samba scored a hat-trick. Similarly, defender Gita Rana scored 2 goals, while Nisha Thokar, Rekha Paudel, and Puja Rana contributed one goal each.
The score tally reached 8-0 after Puja Rana scored a goal in the 89th minute. Rekha Paudel scored a goal in the 78th minute.
Nepal scored 4 goals in the 1st half and added 4 more goals in the second half of the match.
Captain Samba scored a hat-trick in the injury time of the 1st half. She scored her second goal in the 42nd minute and her first goal in the 20th minute.
Nepal had taken an early lead against Sri Lanka after Gita Rana scored the first goal in the 7th minute of the 1st half.
Gita Rana headed the goal into the goalpost capitalizing on the corner from Anita Basnet.
Nepal's score tally had reached 5 after Gita Rana converted the penalty into a goal against Sri Lanka in the 54th minute. Nepal was awarded the penalty after Sri Lanka's defender committed a foul against Kumari Ghising in the D-box area.
Similarly, Nisha Thoker scored the sixth goal against Sri Lanka in the 62nd minute. In the 78th minute, Rekha scored another goal against Sri Lanka on the pass from Puja, taking the score tally to 7-0.
Nepal will now face the final match of the group stage with home team Uzbekistan at 9:15 PM on July 5 (Saturday).
