The Nepali youth team has inched closer to the title by defeating Sri Lanka in the SAFF U-20 Women's Championship.
Nepal thrashed Sri Lanka with a massive 7–0 margin in the match held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh On Thursday.
Nepal took a 4–0 lead in the first half and added three more goals in the second half. Kusum Khatiwada and Samiksha Magar contributed two goals each for Nepal's victory.
Purnima Rana, Sarita Kumari, and Birsana Chaudhary scored one goal each for Nepal.
In their first match of the league stage, Nepal had registered a 7–0 victory over Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka, suffering their fourth consecutive defeat in the championship, has already been eliminated from the title race. They have conceded 26 goals in four matches while scoring only one.
In the championship, the Nepal team lost 3–2 to the host team Bangladesh but defeated Bhutan 6–1.
Nepal will now play against Bhutan this Saturday in the championship. Their final match is scheduled against Bangladesh.
