Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is set to meet with the presidents of five Central Asian nations on Tuesday and Wednesday during the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) in Turkmenistan. The conference, taking place in Awaza from August 4–8, aims to address the unique challenges faced by landlocked countries.
PM Oli will hold separate talks with Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdimuhamedow and Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, both scheduled between 3–6 PM on Tuesday. The discussions are expected to focus on strengthening bilateral ties, trade, and regional connectivity.
Similarly, he will meet Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon on Wednesday. These meetings will coincide with a roundtable discussion on structural transformation and innovation in landlocked economies.
Likewise, PM Oli will deliver a speech at the opening session on Tuesday, representing the LLDC group. He will also participate in key discussions on trade security and climate resilience, highlighting Nepal’s priorities in overcoming geographical constraints.
Leading a 22-member delegation, PM Oli landed in Turkmenbasy on Monday and is staying at Hotel Berkarar in Awaza. His delegation includes advisors, diplomats, and security personnel.
The LLDC group consists of 32 UN member states, all grappling with developmental hurdles due to their lack of direct sea access. The conference serves as a platform for collaborative solutions to shared challenges.
