Baniya sworn in as Bagmati CM; eight others take oath as ministers

Newly elected Chief Minister of Bagmati Province Indra Bahadur Baniya has taken the oath of office and secrecy amidst a ceremony held at the Office of the Province Chief in Hetauda on Tuesday afternoon.

Province Chief Deepak Prasad Devkota administered Baniya the oath of office a while ago. Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party leader Baniya had been appointed as the Chief Minister of Bagmati Province in accordance with Article 168 (2) of the Constitution.

Similarly, eight ministers including two from Nepali Congress and six from UML have taken the oath of office and secrecy with Shiva Raj Adhikari (minister without portfolio), and Krishna Kumar Tamang as Minister for Water Supplier, Energy and Irrigation have taken the oath from ruling NC.

According to Province Chief Secretariat, UML's Madhusudan Paudel has been sworn in as the Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Jayaram Thapa as the Minister for Labor, Employment, and Transport, and Bindu Shrestha took the oath as the Minister for Industry.

Likewise, Dinesh Chandra Devkota took the oath as the Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development, Kiran Thapa Magar as the Minister for Health and Bharat KC was sworn in as the oath of office and secrecy as the Forest Minister from UML.

In the 14-member cabinet, NC holds eight ministers including the Chief Minister while six ministerial portfolios have been allocated for UML.

Now, NC has to appoint remaining five ministers. The process of the ministerial appointment has been delayed due to internal dispute of the party. NC said it will finalize the names of remaining five ministers at the soonest possible.
