Status of five Bardiya people missing in Uttarakhand flash flood still unknown

Five Nepali people from Bardiya district are missing in the flash floods that occurred at Dharali village in Uttarkashi district in the Indian state of Uttarakhand.

Those missing ones are Narendra Khadka and his spouse Sandhya and their 18-month-old baby son Roman of Madhuban Municipality-5 in Bardiya district and Amrita Pariyar and Subas BK of the same area, according to Chitra Paoudel, a local resident of Madhuban Municipality-5.

"They were learned to have taken shelter in a tent. All five went missing after the flash floods occurred at around 9:00 am on Wednesday," Poudel shared.

The Khadka couple and others from Bardiya were in the Indian state of Uttarakhand to earn their livelihood.

Likewise, Ward Chairman of Madhuban Municipality-5 Dilip Gurung stated that he has received a notice about the missing of five persons in the flash floods.

Five others were injured, Gurung shared.

Three of the injured returned home after the treatment, while two others are receiving treatment, according to Gurung.

A search for the missing people is still going on.

Likewise, issuing a press statement today, the Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi mentioned that the status of Nepalis missing in the flash floods was still unknown.

According to the Embassy, the Uttarakhand Police shared that 372 were rescued alive and two dead bodies were recovered from the site and there was no Nepali in the list.

The Embassy also confirmed that five Nepalis are still missing in the flash floods that occurred at Bagoda in Gaudal district in Uttarakhand.

Although Ward Chairman Gurung shared that five people were injured, the Embassy put this number at four, adding that three of them returned home after treatment at a local health facility.

In his statement, the Embassy mentioned that coordination with the government officials and other stakeholders was on for the search and rescue of the missing people and treatment and other assistance for the injured ones.
