Newly elected Chief Minister of Bagmati Province, Indra Bahadur Baniya, has secured the vote of confidence in the province assembly meeting convened on Tuesday.
Baniya, who took charge as the Chief Minister of Bagmati Province with the support of Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) on August 5, received the vote of confidence in the assembly meeting today.
Chief Minister Baniya secured 63 votes out of 64 including 37 lawmakers from NC and 27 from UML. Out of 37 MPs of NC, Ram Krishna Chitrakar is on a visit to America.
Thirteen lawmakers of the Lama group, who have been demanding the appointment of their three lawmakers as ministers, have also voted for Baniya.
In the voting, 22 lawmakers voted against the motion of Baniya while seven others remained neutral. In the 110-member Bagmati Province Assembly, 92 lawmakers were present during the assembly meeting today.
Thirteen lawmakers led by former Chief Minister Lama had agreed to vote in favor of Baniya after the latter expressed commitment to appoint three ministers from their group immediately after the vote of confidence, it is learnt.
