Nine Nepalis die, more than 15 rendered unconscious in Kuwait

Nine Nepali migrant workers have died in Kuwait, the Nepali Embassy said. They are suspected to have died due to consumption of poisonous liquor.

According to Giri Prasad Acharya, Labor Attaché at the Nepali Embassy in Kuwait, the death toll of the Nepali migrant workers has reached nine in the last three days. According to Acharya, more than 15 Nepali people are undergoing treatment in various hospitals in the country

"Nine Nepali migrant workers are reported to have died in the last three days while More than 15 are undergoing treatment at various hospitals," Attaché Acharya told Nepalkhabar. The exact cause of the death will be known only after the medical report is released. We are taking stock of the medical conditions of the ailing Nepalis toay."  

Although liquor consumption is banned in Kuwait, there have been reports of Nepali migrant workers secretly drinking alcohol in the Gulf country.

Lok Bahadur Chhetri, spokesperson at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the ministry has not received the detailed information about this incident.

"We have directed the Nepali Embassy to investigate the incident thoroughly," he said, "The Embassy is carrying out investigation on it."
