The death toll from toxic alcohol consumption in Kuwait has climbed to 23, with nine of the victims being Nepali nationals, according to Labor Attaché at the Nepali Embassy, Giri Prasad Acharya.
The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) National Coordination Council, Kuwait, led by President Bikash Bahadur Singh and Secretary Surendra Limbu, issued a press note stating that 160 individuals—including Nepalis and other Asian nationals—are currently hospitalized due to toxic alcohol consumption.
Citing Kuwaiti government media, the press note stated, "According to the latest official reports, 23 people have died so far, and 160 others are undergoing treatment after consuming methanol-laced toxic alcohol."
The Council expressed deep sorrow over the incident and reiterated that the consumption, sale, and distribution of alcohol are strictly prohibited in Kuwait. It urged all individuals to refrain from any involvement in such illegal and hazardous activities, prioritize their health and safety, and strictly comply with Kuwaiti laws.
Meanwhile, the Nepali Embassy confirmed that nine Nepalis have died in the past three days.
"Reports indicate nine fatalities in the last three days, and more than 15 individuals remain under medical treatment," said Acharya. "The exact cause of death can only be confirmed after medical reports released. We are still working to assess the current situation."
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it has instructed the Embassy in Kuwait to provide further updates on the matter.
