The death toll of Nepali migrant workers in Kuwait has reached 16, the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Foreign Branch, Kuwait has said.
The consumption of toxic hooch is suspected to be the cause behind the death.
Of the total twenty-three deceased, 16 are confirmed to be Nepali nationals while the remaining seven migrants are Indian nationals.
Talking to Nepalkhabar, Ekraj Malla, the president of FNJ, Foreign Branch, Kuwait said, "The details of the deceased have not yet been revealed. The Kuwait government has said it is investigating the case. The names and addresses of the deceased have not yet been revealed."
More than 160 others are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the Gulf country.
Meanwhile, the Nepali Embassy in Kuwait has urged Nepali migrant workers in the Gulf country to refrain from, production, sale and consuming methanol-laced toxic alcohol.
