The mother and sister of Bipin Joshi, a Hamas-held Nepali student, have met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana and appealed to them for his safe release.

During a meeting coordinated by the Nepali Embassy in Israel, Bipin's mother, Padma Joshi, and sister, Pushpa Joshi, appealed to the Israeli President and Knesset Speaker for his release, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli stated.

Taking to social media this morning, Prime Minister Oli wrote, "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is continuously engaging in dialogue through embassies in the Gulf region to ensure Bipin’s safe and prompt release."

Stressing the government’s responsibility to secure Bipin’s early release from Hamas captivity, PM Oli stated that he had previously discussed the matter over the phone with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on March 20 and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on March 12, both of whom are actively involved in Middle East peace initiatives.

He stated, "The government is prioritizing Bipin’s safety and making every possible effort for his release."

Bipin, a native of Kanchanpur, had gone to Israel under the "Learn and Earn" program from Tikapur Agriculture Campus, affiliated with Sudurpaschim University, in the second week of September 2023.

On October 7, 2023, Hamas attacked Israel and took Bipin hostage along with Israeli citizens in Gaza. Ever since the incident took place, his family has had no contact with him. Although it is believed that he is still in Hamas custody, there has been no confirmation of whether he is alive or not.

Meanwhile, on August 11, Bipin’s mother and sister reached Israel, where they have been pleading with various stakeholders to secure his release.
