Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has stated that he is willing to step down to facilitate the restructuring of the party.
Stating that the political situation has become adverse due to the Gen Z movement, he said that party restructuring has been the need of the day.
"Party restructuring is the need of the day. Let us start a restructuring campaign with determination right from the Constitution Day," he said, "To make the party that leads a corruption-free state and society as raised by the Gen Z movement, radical reforms are necessary from the party's rank and file to membership, and organizational structure to leadership selection. "The party's restructuring will not happen the way we are doing now."
He said that anyone, regardless of their position, should be ready to step down for radical reform and that he is prepared for that.
"We need to bring a massive overhaul in the party. For this, we should be ready to even step down from our position, and be ready to take new risks," he said. "For this, I am ready to step down from the position of General Secretary. Let's start discussions on this. Let's admit that a mistake has been made and engage in self-reflection and self-evaluation."
